BP Portrait Award 2008

Nicola Green's portrait of Mark Pritchard has been selected for the 2008 BP Portrait Award showing now at the Aberdeen Art Gallery from 29 November 2008 to 24 January 2009 following excellent reviews and high attendance figures from its showing at Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery in London. After this point the exhibition will tour to Aberystwyth Arts Center from 4 February to 14 March 2009.

The East Wing Collection at The Courtauld

The portrait of the Late Joshua Compston is currently on view in the East Wing Collection at the Courtauld Institute of Art. Joshua Compston was at the Courtauld himself and set up the East Wing Collection, the first contemporary art exhibit at the Courtauld. The portrait is a tribute to him and his work.

Twelve composers write for sound art pioneer Charlie Morrow's Sound Cube - a multi-channel, playback environment providing an immersive, 3D audio experience. With world premieres by Illustrious Company: Martyn Ware/Vincent Clark, Nicola Green, Olivia Block, Shelley Hirsch, Miya Masaoka, Steve McCaffrey, Charlie Morrow, Phill Niblock, Michael J Schumacher, Scanner, Stephen Vitiello and Pamela Z.

Laugh Out Loud - 3D Sound explores the sounds of laughter - a powerful and revealing portrait of any individual. Laugh Out Loud - Surround is a remix of The Laughing Record, an artwork made from the sounds of people laughing from all over the world in all different situations. It includes Horse Guards on parade at Buckingham Palace, commuters on a London rush hour tube, my dentist, a traffic warden and 100 journalists at a porn film premiere.

The extraordinary thing about the sound of any proper belly laugh is that, like during orgasm, we lose all self-consciousness and we reveal our true selves. Our experiences, our culture and our fantasies all inform the way we laugh. It is pre-verbal communication, our most precious universal language.
